Internet sites just aren't made to run without power... The show must go on, though. Gospelcom lost power for 2 hours today, and when I went to implement our normal alternative power scheme, some cablexs didn't work and random machines started rebooting, and... I'm tired. I'm going to be so sore tomorrow...

If you've tried to send me email in the last day or two and it hasn't worked, try again. Everything's back up now. And if you haven't tried to send me mail... try.

Possibly the funniest thing to ever happen to me here in Michigan happened today. A couple days ago I got a 12-pack of mints from the penguin group, and over the last couple days I had sold a couple tins to people at school.

Anyway, today they had a parent-teacher forum at school, and the first thing to get brought up is "someone selling caffeine pills at school." My mom, after turning bright red, informed them that they were only caffeinated peppermints, but now they're (the school and my parents) want my "drug trade" shut down. Heh.

I'm taking a tin of mints to the principal tomorrow (free of charge, BTW). I guess I'll quiet down sales a little, though. I sort of want to fight this, because there's absolutely no way I could lose, and it's something to do, but I don't know if it's worth it. I just can't wait for the rumor toblow up that I got busted selling drugs. That's worth every bit of it. :)

I started listening to Massive Attack yesterday... Good stuff. Very Portishead-ish. Lots available at Scour

I spent a good hour today trying to get Linux networking working on a couple machines at school, before finally realizing they have those stupid 3C905B cards that Linux doesn't like. Now I have to install 3C509's just to get that going.

Yesterday I redid my Enlightenment theme with backgrounds from Digital Blasphemy. The night scenery section is really good.

I went bowling last night. It was my first time in like 4 years, but I did suprisingly well. One game I had a 144 (even with a bad start), and in another I was at 107 after 7 frames (but we had to leave). I think I may have to bowl intramural...

PICS sucks. I'm opposed to most Internet filtering / censorship anyway, but PICS is an absolute worst case scenario. It can never work. Until 99% percent of so of sites have gotten ratings, you can't really use the show only rated sites option without blocking a lot of good content. And if you don't have that option enabled, what good is the whole rating thing? The thing's also super paranoid. Even www.rsac.org (the people who came up with PICS) bails because of a ad rating not belonging to the ad server. I bet a PICS-disabling proxy would be really easy... (and before you get the idea that I'm trying to get at stuff, I don't even run a browser sucky enough to include PICS, so you can drop that thought)

Gimp is big. Real big. Right now I'm trying to compile the latest out of CVS to see if it fixes an apparent xcf bug in 1.1.0. Ugh. RPMs would be really nice.

I set up some new domains today. Calvary Online (the site I run for my church) is going to be re-launching Feb. 7, so I set up calvaryonline.org. I also registered msbob.com just for the fun of it.

If you're in the Muskegon area, and would be interested in a Muskegon Linux Users Group, contact e@mlug.net. It looks like we'll be starting one up RSN.

I take it back. It'll never stop snowing. Actually... Friday they're predicting rain/snow. That would truely be nasty. The roads are already bad, but iced over... Ugh, I don't even want to imagine it.

I hate plug and play. It just doesn't.

Old News (from eNews)

I finally get the Gospelcom rc5 effort back up to speed, and what does distributed.net do but run a stupid des test. I had to go around and reconfigure every client not to participate in des. Stupid things. That'll kill my keyrate for today...

It's gotta quit snowing someday... I hope. We've go at least 2 or 3 feet on the ground, we're getting like 5 more inches this afternoon, and they're saying 3 or 4 more tonight. And, on top of all that, we're supposed to get another huge storm on Friday. Will the madness ever end?!?!?
