a morning hike

So yesterday morning Kathy and I followed the lead of Will Campbell and took a hike in Bronson Canyon Park. The trail Will talks about was easy enough to find, but at times the "trail" was more concept than absolute: at one spot in particular we stopped for several minutes, thoroughly confused, before finding that the trail continued directly up the streambed. A good time, and much thanks to Will for blogging about his hike and thereby giving us the idea.

The park was only mildly busy when we arrived around 9:30 or so, but by the time we left it was packed. 90% of the people there had their dogs with them.

We had actually been hiking from over toward the Observatory last Monday and by chance come to a hill from which we could see the tunnel that Will mentions. That was pretty random.

Update (5:30pm): Almost forgot to mention the best part... Around noon we were hanging out on the grass across from where we parked. A group of Boy Scouts had gathered in the parking lot. Probably 15 or so boys ranging in age from 6 on to maybe 10 (all guesses) and then an accompanying dozen parents/siblings/leaders/etc. The boys were very excited to go see the Bat Cave. Lots of the assorted "I'm gonna take the Batmobile" you'd expect.
